Death and Resurrection of Christ & Redemption Laws of Ruth

Notes from Stephen Bohr’s “The Genesis Code” #05 Messiah’s Family Tree

God initially gave Adam and all of mankind rulership as stewards over this world:

Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

We were crowned as Kings:

Psalm 8:3-5 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
. And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

The condition for our status was the choice to serve God:

Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

The essential element we need is faith. Faith is hearing God’s word and acting on it with trust. Belief plus action is the formula. In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve disbelieved God and acted on that disbelief.

Hebrews 11 – Heroes of faith performed actions simply based on trust of God against all odds:

Moses, brought the slaves out of Egypt
Noah, built a boat, invested his time, talent, money, and everything he had
Abraham, left his country trusted to God to lead him without knowing where

God wants us not to trust in our own works but in His grace. The fig leaves versus the garments of light. What God provides versus our own works.

Initially Adam and Eve were naked in terms of human garments but not cold, not ashamed, not in need of any garment:

Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

God wears garments of light:

Psalm 104: 1-2 Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, 2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

Man was crowned with God’s glory and splendor when he was first created:

Psalm 8:5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Adam and Eve first noticed that their garments felt missing after they sinned:

Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

God’s true church is clothed in light:

Revelation 12:1 Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars.

To solve this problem, God clothed them in garments of skin. The only way to obtain an animal skin is through animal sacrifice. This action demonstrated what the seed (Jesus) would do in the future to cover sin. Sentence of death carried out on lambs that day and reconnected man with God and commuted the penalty that they would die that day.

Genesis 3:21 Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.

Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

The fig leaves were inadequate in covering them or making them feel less naked. This is true of all self works. All sinners hide from God. Nature of sin blames others, creates a low self image, guilt, fear, strife. Solution to sin solves these symptoms of sin.

Genesis 3:8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

This has a significant parallel to events described in the book of Revelation, the issue in the last days will be similar to the issues in the first days: committing sin, destroying Christ’s robe of righteousness:

Revelation 16:15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

After this event, Adam loses kingship and the devil has rulership delivered to him. Devil called prince of this world:

Luke 4:5-7 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

Satan also is described going to a meeting in heaven among all of the rulers of worlds, claiming his territory as the Earth:

Job 1:6-7 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

Satan had been given dominion of earth. He took kingship, earth, eternal life away from Adam and all of his descendents. Jesus restores those three elements to us.

Luke 4:6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

The rod of authority will not be taken from Judah, and he will not be without a law-giver, till he comes who has the right to it, and the peoples will put themselves under his rule.

Genesis 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah,
Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes;
. And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

This has an important parallel to the events in the book of Ruth and the redemption laws. Naomi decides to return to Israel after a long famine is over, but returns with no land or inheritance or sons.

Ruth 1:6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the LORD had visited His people by giving them bread.

Moab is a corrupt nation located to the east of Israel. These events also have their parallel in the life of Joseph. Naomi is in the line of Judah, she is returning to Bethlehem during the time of Passover at the barley harvest.

The laws of the land allowed anyone to sell his land or even sell himself a slave. Only a brother or next of kin can buy back freedom. Jesus could pay the price only by first becoming out brother. He then redeemed us by paying the price.

Leviticus 25:25 ‘If one of your brethren becomes poor, and has sold some of his possession, and if his redeeming relative comes to redeem it, then he may redeem what his brother sold.

When a man dies without having children, the widow may become the wife of a family member to recover future children:

Deuteronomy 25:5 “If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the widow of the dead man shall not be married to a stranger outside the family; her husband’s brother shall go in to her, take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her.

Adam was the son of God:

Luke 3:38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

And he chose another master. We all choose to be slaves of Satan. No one is available to recover kinship because all of us have sinned and become slaves:

Romans 6:16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

All of us have sinned and all of us will die. All of us have thrown away the inheritance:

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

All things exist and hold together through Jesus:

Colossians 1:15-18 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Until Jesus joined our family and became flesh, our next of kin, He could not redeem us according to redemption laws. The two requirements are:

1. Lamb must have no defect. Jesus must have led perfect life
2. Lamb must die death of sin.

Jesus came in sinful flesh but He was not condemned by sin, but instead condemned sin.

Romans 8:1-3 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh

Jesus was called the Son of God which is the title originally given to Adam. He has recovered the crown, territory, recovers eternal life for humanity:

Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. 22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

He reverses death and provides life:

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

He gives us life and rulership:

Romans 5:17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

Jesus is root and offspring of David. Father of mankind and also the son of man simultaneously. He is the ladder with connections on both sides. Rooted on earth because He is man. Connected to Heaven as God. No human priest can connect us to God because all other human priests are sinners.

Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

Jesus claimed to be both the son of Abraham and the God “I AM” of Abraham.

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

God’s mission by sending Jesus was to make us His sons and daughters. Jesus would first redeem us and then adopt us. We don’t deserve the relationship, as we are born children of wraith. We become linked with Jesus as His brothers and share in His blessings:

Galatians 4:4-7 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Jesus will call us His brethren:

Hebrews 2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

He had to be made in all things like we are in order to redeem us:

Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

We then obtain the status of both sons of men and sons of God also. God intends to adopt us and have other sons besides Jesus. Jesus after his experience on earth is the “firstborn among many brethren”; we are added into the family:

Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

God will give His children everything:

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

How we become sons of God: We become sons through faith, and baptism is the ceremony to indicate this.

Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

God will then repeat the statement to Jesus to all of us: “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”

We then lose our status as slaves and become sons and subject to all of the privileges of resurrection and life that Jesus was:

Galatians 4:7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
